STEP 1: CREATE YOUR ACTIVITY
There are two ways that you can run a Letters of Hope letter writing activity.
Run an event
Running a letter writing event is a fantastic way to bring your group together. This involves setting a date, time and duration for your letter writing event and providing materials (pens, stationery, etc) to your group. Want us to take care of this process for you? We offer Letter Writing Workshops, which you can learn more about here.
Ask people to submit their letters
Alternatively, you may prefer to ask your group members to write submit their handwritten letters to you by a certain date. This option works well where there are teams/groups with conflicting hours and varying operational needs.
Whichever way you choose, we recommend using a letter writing activity as an opportunity to break the stigma around mental health by facilitating important conversations. You might look to do this by organising a mental health themed morning tea as part of your activity, giving people a platform to share their lived experiences of mental health, or asking your group to share mental health self care tips with each other. Letters of Hope also offer a number of Mental Health Workshops & Trainings, including a lived experience presentation, why not look to tie this in to your activity? (you can click here to learn more)
STEP 2: COMMUNICATE YOUR ACTIVITY
Now that you have decided on your activity, it’s time to communicate the details out to your group! We have a range of promotional tools, templates and resources to support you with this. When sharing any social media posts, be sure to use the hashtags #LettersOfHope & #OneLetterAtATime and tag us @lettersofhope.care:
Letter Writing Party Guidelines - kindly created by Letters of Hope volunteer, Rachel, to provide some guidance to those who wish to facilitate a Letter Writing Party which involves either donating Letters of Hope, or leaving them in the community!
STEP 3: REGISTER YOUR ACTIVITY AND MAIL YOUR LETTERS TO US!

“We had been planning to help Letter of Hope for some time, and we hope to do it again! Being able to make a difference in complete stranger's lives was an amazing opportunity and experience, and every member joined in to help. We dedicated an hour of our meeting to writing these letters and it was a learning experience to see what people with depression and low mental health are going through and how much love they really need. Milwee JOI has always taken pride in giving to our community and this time is no different! Thank you so much!”
